This Mantra also appear in Krishna Yajurveda –Rudra Suktam with some modification. We have given the text in Sanskrit with svara markings as per Saakala Saakha of Rig Veda. Meaning of this Mantra: While the unexpected thunder and lightning; all the people of the land, light the fire, for the protection of your peaceful, non-violent yajnic social order in the midst of heaven and earth. O Rudra - the golden gloried ruler, saviour of the good, a terror for the evil, hota (Priest in the Yajna), and not a grabber or hoarder, but one who is dedicated to the Truth and the Dharma, please protect us. Purpose of this Mantra: Invoke Rudra while lighting the Deepa in the morning and/or evening daily for our protection; or even during lighting the fire for the purpose of Homa or Yajna. This Mantra praises Rudra while invoking him to our place. It is believed that, this Mantra is recited during unexpected thunder/ lightning and for people (to get relief) suffering from fear or phobia.
