| Video Discription | (24 Dec 1997) Natural Sound Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, leader of the militant Hamas group addressed his followers at a rally and accused those who confiscated land, demolished homes and built settlements as the real terrorists. Yassin spoke by telephone to more than 4-thousand people who attended a Hamas rally in the West Bank city of Jenin. More than four thousand people shouting slogans and waving flags attended the rally at the Yad school in the West Bank. Some even climbed onto nearby rooftops to wave banners - one measuring 15 by 15 metres (50 foot by 50 foot). Women from the city's refugee camp and officials from the Head of Preventative Security in Jenin were among those who came to listen to the address by Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, leader of Hamas. The spiritual leader, said while world had charged them with terrorism they were not. He said his followers were legitimately fighting occupation. Hamas opposes Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's involvement in the peace process with Israel and has staged numerous suicide bombings in recent years. Scores of Israelis have been killed and maimed in these attacks but the peace process has not been successfully derailed by Hamas and its followers. Yassin told supporters they have maintained Palestinian unity despite American and Israel attempts to divide people, rejecting the pressure on the Palestinian Authority to arrest Hamas activists. He said the America aimed to interfere in everything even in personal lives. The crowd was told he intended to ask Yasser Arafat to release the detainees - because he said they had not committed any crime. Yassin said he was waiting for their release in the next few days. At the end of the rally masked Hamas exploded a model of a Jewish settlement a symbol of their hatred.
