Our offices here are riddled with them, presumably because some bright spark thought they were safer and prettier than the conventional 4-way power strips lurking under the desks. Time to take a look at the "quality devices" you get when you pay through the nose for these things, and some of the other options that are available. What I should've mentioned in the video, as another alternative if you must have above-desk sockets, is bench trunking, either in the small "angled pattress box" form (e.g. Marco MTBU series, Conec2 or Centaur ABU) or a whole length (e.g. MK Pinnacle). These will take whatever mix and match of normal, reputable-brand wall outlets you require.
