The Gorge Amphitheater is one of the most unique concert venues in Northern America. Rather than being in a busy downtown city center, it is located 9 mi west of George Washington, near the Columbia River. There aren't many people that actually live near the Gorge, which is why you're going to need consider your accommodations if you're going to visit the Gorge in 2022. Don't worry, they've considered that and there are literally tons of camping options available at the Gorge. From standard camping all the way to glamping and Oasis camping. There's an option for most. There are also numerous nearby wineries with accommodations, RV parks, and campgrounds, both private and government run. There is even a hotel in George We opted to stay in a campground about 30 minutes away from the Gorge and tried our first attempt at car camping. It was a much more cost-effective option for us. We also saw a handful of hotels and motels sprinkled along the highway that might do well for laying your weary head down after rocking out all night. If you're not staying at the Gorge campgrounds, you'll also need to consider parking which they do have several lots available with day parking. The close lot fills up fast, so if you're coming from the campground or the far lot, be prepared for a hike into the venue. When we say hike I'm not talking about just a long flat walk through a very long parking lot or something like that. There are actual sections of the walk into the Gorge from the parking that are 100% in the dirt and meadows up hills around switchbacks, and we definitely witnessed some people struggling. Would highly recommend wearing good walking shoes; and ladies, Amy recommends you might want to wear some shorts under those fun dresses to save the thighs! The venue itself is 500 acres including parking. We checked off two bucket list items in one. See Dave Matthews live and attend a concert at the Gorge! We attended our concert to see Dave Matthews during Labor Dave Weekend. It was definitely warm during the early part of the day and then once the sun set, we noticed quite the chill on the air. Moral of the story wear layers and bring yourself a water bottle for the hike. Guess that leads us to our next point pretty easily, which is what to bring and what should you leave? Do bring something to sit on if your ticket is for the lawn. We brought tall fold-up camping chairs and regretted that decision immediately because the hill itself that you're sitting on is extremely angled. We noticed that they had low riding lawn chairs available for rent and those would definitely be more suitable for this area. We ended up treating ourselves to a special souvenir from our favorite band and sat on that most of the night until the amphitheater really started to fill up. And then, it was standing room only for those of us on the lawn which was fine because we were all boogying!Do bring money for souvenirs, you're bound to want something. Unfortunately, you can also bring your vapor cigarettes and nicotine cigarettes. Bring your patience. There's lots of lines. Don't forget those poster tubes if you are a collector!
Don't bring any kind of weapon including pocket knives. We watched somebody have to take off their shoes and go through quite the interrogation before they could go through the line. Don't bring bags that aren't clear; they won't be allowed in.We personally really enjoyed sitting on the lawn because this gave us the freedom to move and be comfortable while still being at basically eye level with the stage which brings us to another tip: Don't skip the opening acts. Not only are they usually pretty incredible artists that are up and coming. that's how you get those really good seats in the general admission areas. We managed to basically be in the front row of the lawn section and when the night was over and we took a selfie over our shoulder we could see a sea of people behind us. We had no idea it had gotten that full! Those are our tips for visiting the Gorge Amphitheater in 2022 and beyond! Drop us a comment and let us know if you've been to the Gorge! Who did you see? If you haven't been: what would your dream show be? Stay safe out there!
