| Video Discription | Had my Comic and Concept Art interview at the University of Hertfordshire today and got accepted YIPPEEEEEE so I wanted to share what I had in my portfolio! I relied on showreels a lot to put mine together and I wanna (hopefully) help too! :D ★ University of Hertfordshire - Comics and Concept Art (CONDITIONAL) ★ Escape Studios - The Art of Video Games (CONDITIONAL) ★ University of the Arts London - Games Art (CONDITIONAL - no interview needed) ★ Staffordshire University London - Computer Games Design (CONDITIONAL - no portfolio or interview needed) ★ University of the Arts London - Fine Art: Drawing (Portfolio was accepted -- I withdrew my offer because they kept inviting me to interviews after I ghosted 3 times because I didn't want to go 😭) Some feedback from interview (very paraphrased): ★ MORE LIFE DRAWING!!! ALWAYS. ★ Stray away from anime/manga-esque faces (I forgot to include my more realistic face drawings bc I was so focused on body anatomy TT but I'm working on it now!!!) -- The interviewer was drawn to the Kai'sa (first fanart page top left) drawing especially because of the mix of stylised and realsitic qualities. ★ Concept Art is about being able to adapt styles depending on who you're working for/with! While having individuality is cool, search studios you want to work for and study their styles. ★ Learn 3D over the summer! Being well versed in 3D as a concept artist makes you a really strong candidate especially with the rise of AI (+ I've seen Riot splash artists use 3D in the middle of drawing to get correct environmemt perspectives). (I chose to learn 2D animation over the summer instead bc I want to animate T-T 3D can wait) Also, starting with visually strong studies + a range of mediums definitely gave a good first impression! When talking about things like your own designs, I've noticed that enthusiasm and explaining design choices are taken into consideration at both Herts and Escape Studios. Showing moodboards also had positive reaction from both interviews. Show processes for designs as much as possible! MUSIC: TRUE - existttrace |
