| Video Discription | There's a new bar in town. 🍸🥃 We swooped into Maggie Hall's the other day to check it out. 🛸 • One of the latest additions to the bustling dining scene of Astoria's 30th Avenue, this bar is named after Maggie Hall, a brothel madam from the late 1800s. Born in Ireland, Hall arrived in New York City in 1873. Once here, she began working as a barmaid 🍺 She would soon follow the success of the Gold Rush by moving to Idaho and opening a brothel. Maggie Hall was known to the townspeople however, for "her kindness and charity. She would home the homeless, feed the hungry and nurse the sick." The bar's decorative theme is a reflection of Hall's late 19th century aesthetic, but also an ode to "Old Astoria", when large Victorian mansions used to sit on hills and line the waterfronts, in the midst of rising industrialization. The bar features a menu of cocktails, craft drinks, and food, along with a large back patio for the better weather. While Maggie Hall's itself is new, it is a sister bar to already-successful bars in the area like Judy & Punch and Madam Marie's (both in Astoria), Sweet Avenue in Sunnyside, Queens, and Someday Bar in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn. • We encourage you to check out the space, grab some drinks and fare, and spend some time with good friends over at Maggie Hall’s 🍻 Oh, and tell Colin we sent you. #knowyorkcity 🗽 |
