In what is otherwise a monotonous ritual held every day at sunset on the various border outposts India shares with Pakistan, a curious turn of events ended in blows being exchanged between soldiers from both the countries. The Beating The Retreat ceremony, as the daily ritual is called, is when the national flags of both the countries are taken down in perfect military sync. Aggression through eyes as soldiers from both the countries go through the motion - and their body language - reflects the hostility that defines India-Pakistan relations. However, in Punjab's Ferozepur city on Wednesday, while the ceremony witnessed by officers and visitors from both sides of the border was on, the Indian soldier was elbowed by his Pakistani counterpart (in black fatigue in the video below) when they were carrying their flags. That mild physical contact, which in any other circumstance was not more than a nudge, angered the Indian soldier who started abusing and beating the Pakistani ranger. Stunned at the altercation, fellow jawans and officers from both sides rushed towards the two exchanging blows and removed them from the place. While no official explanation has so far come from the government on the incident, civilian visitors recorded it on their mobile phones and the video is now being widely shared.
