It's been nearly a month since the fourth Starship launch, and what we are most interested in now is how far SpaceX has progressed in preparing for its fifth Starship launch. Let's find out on today's episode of Alpha Tech as we explore the installation of the heat shield on Ship 30, the first test of B14.1 at the launch site, and the new progress of OLIT-2 at Starbase. SpaceX Ramping Up: S30 New Tiles Added, B14.1 Slapping Test, OLIT-2 Raising. First, talk about Ship 30. As we know, the ship has undergone a complete overhaul of its heat shield over the past few weeks. Starting last week, SpaceX began removing all the tiles and simultaneously installed an additional layer of abrasion-resistant tiles and a new layer of starbricks, as promised by Elon Musk earlier. We previously couldn't have imagined that SpaceX could achieve this before the next rocket launch, so the heat shield change for Starship is truly spectacular! Right? Give us a like if you agree. Work on Ship 30 is progressing quite well. Thanks to the amazing images from Starship Gazer, we have some great close-up views of the major changes in the new TPS system on Starship. We can see that the nose cone of Starship 30 received new tiles, temporarily fixed with tape without needing the abrasion layer underneath. However, moving down below, we see that the forward flap has been equipped with ablative material. This layer's primary function is to safeguard the core structure and hull from harm. In critical areas, if a tile is dislodged, the ablative layer begins to carbonize upon exposure to plasma heat.
