Written by Bob Gale and directed by Robert Zemeckis, the Back to the Future trilogy was released from 1985 to 1990, following the time-traveling adventures of high school student Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and eccentric scientist Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd), who builds the DeLorean time machine. Though the two sequels weren't as highly regarded as the original, the trilogy has cultivated a dedicated fan following who have long advocated for a fourth Back to the Future film. While the fan-made Back to the Future 4 trailer imagines Michael J. Fox returning as Marty McFly, it's unlikely he would do so. The actor officially retired in 2021 due to Parkinson's disease, and it would be difficult to imagine anyone else playing his role. The fan-made trailer, however, does provide a serviceable blueprint for how the Back to the Future franchise could continue by shifting the focus to Jake McFly.
