| Video Discription | Baidoa, a city in southwestern Somalia, currently accommodates one of the largest populations of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) within the country. Many of these IDPs are living on private land and are at imminent risk of eviction. To provide a longer-term solution to displacement and mitigate the growing risk of eviction, the government of South West State allocated public land to relocate affected households. In October 2018, IOM in partnership with Danwadaag Durable Solutions Consortium, humanitarian partners, and the government, started the development of the public land to provide the household with life-saving basic services, such as water, sanitation, healthcare, and shelters. To date, over 2,000 displaced families who were facing eviction have been relocated to the new site where they enjoyed increased access to services. This project is an example of how the nexus between humanitarian, durable solutions, protection actors, and government can be leveraged to achieve major impact, attending not only to immediate needs but also long-term durable solutions. |
