According to the latest study conducted by the Indonesian Geo-spatial Information Agency in 2010 and verified by the UN and CIA in 2012, Indonesia is made up of 13,466 islands, out which 922 are permanently inhabited. A survey in 2002 that put the number at 18,307 islands. But the consensus is generally based on the 1996 estimate of 17,508 islands; and that is usually the first number you will find when you are googling them up. And as we told you, they are still debating about it till today. We settle with the fact that we still donโt know the exact number of islands in Indonesia.
