Made with besan (gram flour), Baja is one of the most popular street snack in Mauritius. Usually eat with green chilli paste or tomato and coriander chutney. During Ramadan in Mauritius, muslims usually prepare Bajja for breaking the fast (iftaar). Baja is also known as besan pakora or pakoray in India 🇮🇳. Baja is known in South Africa as Daltjie, Curry Balls or Chilli Bites. Baja is known in Suriname as Phulauri.
