The current scientific opinion is that after billions of years of expansion it will reach the state of Heat Death. But, while there is evidence to support this, like the accelerating expansion of the Universe, it is not set in stone. There are many competing theories, one of the most fascinating of them being the Big Crunch. The idea is that gravity will one day overpower the force of the expansion and cause the Universe to contract.
