The theme of this MEP was to focus on characters / celebrities who helped the editors realize that they were LGBT. The reasons vary, and you can read most of them below! 00:00 Mars | Marshall Lee/Marceline I was obsessed with Adventure Time as a kid. I always felt that Marceline was as relatable as a 1000-year-old vampire queen could be to a human kid. Then, I discovered Marshall Lee. There was something that seemed fascinating about the gender bent episodes to me, though I had no idea why, and it took me years to realize why I wanted to be like him. I chose to highlight Adventure Time rather than later more defined examples because I still consider it important to the discovery of my genderfluid identity, and it holds a dear place in my heart due to this and much more. 00:10 Munelight | Drag Performers | Trans 00:20 Nightdreamer | Charlie Barkin I daydreamed a lot as a kid and the character that I daydreamed as had always been a female (my assigned at birth gender) until I saw ADGTH2. Charlie was the first male character that I daydreamed as, and I think it's pretty significant considering my upbringing. Mostly used the clips with heaven settings because clouds are often used to illustrate daydreaming (and because escaping heaven was my favorite aspect of the movie back then). And the ending is basically taking this gender identity to the real life. 00:30 Gayspiderman | Lilith, Alastar It wasn't until I was 20 years old that I realized i'm asexual. These characters helped me figure it out. Never too late too late to come out I guess! 00:40 TripleCrown Studios | Leliana I went with Leliana (Dragon Age), as I loved the games and I would always romance her (even when I was repressing the fact I liked women). Then when I started college and made a friend that was into Dragon Age, & he asked me "are you sure you're straight?", and I replied that "I romanced her for the story". Not long after, I came out. 00:51 Falibat | Rose Rose from Titanic was my first ever crush, so looking back she was really one of the first proper hints that I was a lesbian, so I wanted to honour that! 01:00 Reindog | Enid I’d seen plenty of canon LGBT characters prior to reading and watching Ghost World, but none of them really “clicked” for me. It took writing a ten page essay for my college LGBT lit class about how Enid, a character I already heavily related to, could be read as a lesbian for me to realize I was also probably gay. 01:10 KickNKill | Applejack When I first started watching MLP, Applejack made me think a lot about femininity and breaking gender norms, which ultimately led me to thinking about being not-cis. Also seeing her interact with Rarity in ways that could be considered romantic made me feel really happy and warm inside, like there was nothing wrong with being different and showing your true feelings. At the end, there wasn't just a single show or a movie that made me suddenly realize my true self, but MLP was one of the main pieces of media that helped to shape me into who I am today and to not be afraid to share that with the world. 01:20 PuffythePig | Pleakley He is the closest I think I have ever had to a nonbinary character that felt consistent with how I feel about my own nonbinary identity. He was my nonbinary awakening. 01:30 Longlost | Robyn Goodfellowe Robyn said "but I already am in a cage!" and I knew this character was gonna be a part of me forever. 01:40 True Awkwardness | Korra Korra has had a huge effect on me! She was the first person I saw in tv or movies who was canonically bi. She really helped inspire me to find who I am and even though she's fictional, I feel like she'd be proud of me: especially since this is my first pride month as a member of the community! 01:50 Lemonballs | Nick | Genderfluid 02:00 Daycrawler | Yosafire I heavily headcanon this character as being nonbinary and I always deeply resonated with them. I also questioned if I was a demi-boy or demi-girl for a while, which explains the flags at the beginning. 02:10 Dragoness | Rick Sanchez I used Rick Sanchez because he’s been confirmed bisexual by the producers (although sometimes I consider him more pansexual than bisexual) and this is something I really appreciate about this character. I relate to him as a character not only because of the bisexuality, but also with how much he struggles with his relationship with his family and other people he loves. 02:22 Twilight Moon | Doja Cat Doja Cat made me realize my sexuality because she’s literally just so gorgeous. When I first started thinking she was attractive I never knew it would lead to me finding my true identity since I thought it was normal to call the same sex hot yet still be straight. 02:30 Salt | Todd Chavez | Ace |
