| Video Discription | Bisi bele bath/Bisi bele huli anna is a spicy rice & lentil based dish is said to have originated from the state of Karnataka. In kannada bisi means hot, bele means lentils & bath means rice. The Bisi bele bath masala powder & the tempering that we add at the end gives this dish a rich taste and spiciness. The whole cooking process involves four steps 1. Cooking rice & lentils in pressure cooker 2. Roasting & grinding Bisi bele bath masala powder 3. Cooking vegetables 4. Finally mixing all together Vegetables that I added are carrot, beans, potato & drumstick. You can add any available vegetables at home. This dish is usually cooked in celebrations & festivals as it considered lit bit time consuming. But if you prepare & store the Bisi bele bath masala powder beforehand then it will be short and easy process. Some people even pressure cook rice, dal and vegetables together to save time. Step by step process: RICE & DAL: 1. Add RICE- 1 cup, TOOR DAL- half cup to pressure cooker. 2. Rinse and add 5 cups water. 3. Pressure cook for 2 whistles (it differs depending on your cooker requirements) 4. It should be mashed consistency, if not mash it with laddle. BISI BELE BATH POWDER: 1.In a hot pan dry roast CORIANDER SEEDS- 1 tbsp, URAD DAL- 1 tbsp, CHANA DAL- 1 tbsp, CUMIN SEEDS- half tbsp, PEPPER- 1 tsp, FENUGREEK SEEDS- half tsp, SESAME SEEDS- 1 tsp, POPPY SEEDS- 1 tsp, CINNAMON STICK- small, CARDAMON- 2, CLOVES- 2, DRY RED CHILLIES- 9 in a low flame. 2. When it turns aromatic add GRATED COCONUT and roast further. 3. Cool completely and grind into fine masala powder ( You can prepare this masala powder and store it in airtight container for 1 month). BISI BELE BATH: 1. Heat pan & add 1 tbsp SESAME OIL ( sesame oil gives nice aroma, you can use any cooking oil). 2. Add 1 cubed ONION ( or use 8-9 shallots/pearl onion). 3. When onion slightly cooked add 1 finely chopped TOMATO. 4. When tomatoes becomes mushy add TURMERIC POWDER- 1 tsp, SALT- 1 tbsp, CARROT- 1 chopped, BEANS- 9 chopped, POTATO- 1 cubed, DRUMSTICK- 1 chopped, GRINDED MASALA POWDER & WATER- 3 cups. 5. Cover & cook for low flame in 20 minutes. 6. After 20 minutes add & mix cooked RICE & DAL without any lumps. 7. Add TAMARIND EXTRACT- 1 cup, JAGGERY- 1 tsp, adjust salt as per requirement, CORIANDER LEAVES- finely chopped & mix well. 8. Cover & cook for further 10 minutes. TEMPERING: 1. Add GHEE-1 tbsp, DRY RED CHILLIES- 2, MUSTARD SEEDS- half tbsp, ASAEFOETIDA/HING POWDER- half tsp, CASHEW NUTS & CURRY LEAVES. 2. Add tempering to the cooked rice, combine well & serve.
