| Video Discription | One major risk which is associated with LPG vessel fires is a phenomena call “BLEVE”, Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion. This phenomenon occurs when the LPG vessel is exposed to high temperatures either from impinging flames or from a nearby fire. The high temperature causes the liquified gas to evaporate, increasing the pressure inside the vessel and weakening its shell. If there were no efforts to cool down the exposed vessel it may eventually explode sending fragments hundreds of meters away. Ideally firefighters would want to cool down the exposed shell above the liquid level since it’s the most vulnerable in such scenario in attempts to prevent a BLEVE or delay it. Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion (BLEVE), these types of explosions are associated with pressurized gas vessels, mainly Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) vessels. These vessels can be found in almost all industries, transportation industry, Oil & Gas, Food industry, farming & agriculture, Manufacturing, or even residential areas.
