We’ll be painting a stunning butterfly on a flower using A4 watercolour paper in portrait format. Our focus will be on colour mixing, the wet-in-wet technique, and layering. **Materials Needed:** - **NOT Watercolour Paper** - **Brushes:** Large Brush (No. 12), Rigger Brush, Small Detail Brush - **Paints:** Cadmium Yellow, Lemon Yellow, Cadmium Red, Alizarin Red (or Rose Madder), Paynes Grey, Cerulean Blue, Cobalt or Ultramarine Blue - **Optional:** White Gouache, Ink pen or brush **Instructions:** 1. **Sketching:** Draw the butterfly and flowers on your paper. 2. **Colour Mixing:** Prepare your colours. Check out my video for tips on mixing secondary colours! 3. **Background:** Wet the paper, add greens, yellows, and purples, then let it dry. 4. **Foreground Flowers:** Use Permanent Rose or Rose Madder for pink petals, and mix reds for flower crowns. 5. **Background Details:** Add pink and green flowers for depth. 6. **Butterfly:** Paint orange areas first, then black with Paynes Grey. Use ink for details. 7. **Shadows and Final Touches:** Add deeper greens and purples for shadows. Finish with white gouache for highlights. Enjoy the creative process!
