This move revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the state into two Union Territories – Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. The abrogation of Article 370 was a controversial move and was met with legal challenges. The main issue surrounding Article 370 was the degree of autonomy it provided to Jammu and Kashmir. Critics argued that this special status hindered the integration of the state with the rest of India and created a separate set of laws for Jammu and Kashmir residents. Proponents, on the other hand, viewed it as a necessary measure to preserve the unique identity and autonomy of the region. The Supreme Court has now pronounced its verdict on Article 370 carefully considering the arguments presented by both sides before delivering its judgment.
