| Video Discription | In this video we try and figure out why the Mazdaspeed 3 is overboosting / boost creeping in cold weather with the BNR S4 v2 turbo. During the summer it holds 18 psi perfectly on wastegate spring pressure, but in colder weather boost creeps up to 24 psi as RPM increases with 0% wgdc. This can be dangerous as it can max out the stock fuel system and increase the possibility to run lean. It can also cause knock due to higher cylinder pressures. After all this troubleshooting, it looks like the next step is to remove the turbo, separate the turbine housing, and port out the exhaust path through the wastegate (check that video out). Several factors can cause boost creep and overboosting. Cold weather, a large intake, a catless exhaust, a sticking wastegate flap, a wastegate actuator with a spring that's too stiff, a binding wastegate component, or a wastegate path design that cannot bypass enough exhaust gasses away from the turbine wheel.
