| Video Discription | Acid rain (carbonic acid) is formed when CO2 emissions are combined with water in the atmosphere. Here we replicate this process on a more rapid scale. Dry ice is added to several beakers containing an acid/base indication and sodium hydroxide (NaOH, base). Upon formation of the carbonic acid, the indicator turns colors which indicates a shift from a pH of 11 to a pH of around 3. |
