The calcium carbonate based dry rock has a life-like paint on it that looks realistic, but still maintains the porosity of the rock. After painting, the rock has shelf stable bacteria added to it that will stay dormant until it is added to an aquarium. The painted surface may also assist in reducing algae growth on the rock surface.
