| Video Discription | FIRST PUBLISHED 6 July 2016 After Charles Darwin observed how people were bitten by vinchucas in 1835 in Latin America, he fell ill and is suspected to have suffered from Chagas disease. In 1909, the disease was discovered by Carlos Chagas, a Brazilian physician. It took 40 years until the illness was considered a public health issue. At that time, the disease killed about 250,000 people every year.
