Not surprising though, with a culinary legacy that spans decades to when Mr. Shama Bhat, a native Udupi set up Udupi Shri Krishna Bhavan in 1947, which eventually morphed into this popular vegetarian eatery in 1980. I caught up with the fourth-generation, present-day custodians of this iconic Chennai institution, and in the course of doing so, also relished many of their much-ordered tiffin treats, including the rasam vada, kotte kadubu with kootu, menaskai and ghee roast dosae.
