How to travel in Almaty • You can either walk or take cabs. You can install YandexGo Taxi app. • If you can figure out, public transport is is available everywhere in Almaty. Use 2GIS app to navigate in Almaty instead of Google Maps. Language Barrier Most people do not speak English. You can use Google Translate. Local SIM Card: You can buy a local SIM near the exit gate of airport. I have covered why you shouldn’t buy from city. Currency: Currency used in Kazakhstan is Tenge. Current exchange rate is 1 INR = 5.7 Tenge. It is suggested to bring USD from India and exchange for Tenge at the airport. You will get good rates. We used our Citibank cards. Trains: 1.
