| Video Discription | Chittagong Hill Tracts is an area located in a remote, hilly region in eastern Bangladesh. The impact of a past conflict, the scarcity of agricultural land, persistent environmental challenges such as incessant rain and flooding in the monsoon season and the lack of water in winter month, have resulted in alarming food insecurity and limited livelihood options for the people in the region. This is particularly the case for small ethnic communities living in isolated villages, who are often deprived of basic services, and rely predominantly on rain-fed agriculture. In an effort to make these vulnerable communities more resilient, European Civil protection and Humanitarian aid Operations funded the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to support critically food insecure families by increasing their capacity to resist the recurrent shocks they face. Thanks to the introduction of simple agricultural methods which were not prevalent in this area, these communities now foresee a better future for their children. Video by FAO |
