| Video Discription | We take Oliver, our rescued Clydesdale horse, down to our homesteads river for the first swim of the year! (2024) We are excited to have him swimming once again! Swimming horses can really benefit them in so many ways! And with Oliver having EPM in the past we believe swimming is an excellent therapy for him. Swimming gives the horse a highly effective full body workout; improving general fitness, joint flexion and respiration. Depending on water level, the buoyancy of the water reduces concussion and impact on the lower limbs, and encourages an increased range of motion. The high resistance of the water leads to increased muscle activity, and the water pressure helps to reduce swelling, stimulate circulation of the lower limbs and the cold water helps to reduce any pain present. For Oliver, this is great! And SO beneficial. We also use swimming horses as a means of training. It is especially helpful in starting young horses. We will be doing a lot of Oliver's first training sessions here at the river. Swimming horses makes an easy and enjoyable learning experience for all. And a safer experience as well! Oliver is a three year old Clydesdale stallion that we rescued March 2023 with the help of our viewers. He was very sick when we first got him and REALLY Underweight. He has come a long way and made a full recovery from EPM. He is now well and strong enough to start training to pull and eventually ride (Of course with the ok from our vet and chiropractor).
