| Video Discription | “Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.” Gen. 15:6 (CSB) First seen in Genesis as Abraham’s response to God’s promise to make Abraham into a great nation, the phrase “credited as righteousness” becomes a description for salvation in the New Testament. Paul refers to it multiple times in Romans, pointing out that Abraham’s works did not credit him righteousness, but the fact that he had faith and believed God did credit him righteousness. In the same way we, as Christians, believe that Christ died for our sins (and rose again), and our faith is what God sees and credits as righteousness, not our works. Paul sums it up in Galatians 3:5-6, “So then, does God give you the Spirit and work miracles among you by your doing the works of the law? Or is it by believing what you heard— just like Abraham who believed God, and it was credited to him for righteousness?” We are saved by faith, not by works! Praise God!
