| Video Discription | Evan Wright, the award-winning journalist and longtime contributor, has died at 59. His wife confirmed his death was by suicide. Wright's notable work includes reporting from Afghanistan and Iraq, with his series on Iraq, "The Killer Elite," earning a National Magazine Award in 2004. This reporting became the basis for his book "Generation Kill," adapted into an HBO miniseries in 2008, where Wright served as a writer. In 2002, he wrote the true crime article “Mad Dogs & Lawyers,” featured in "The Best American Crime Writing." Wright also wrote features on Shakira, Quentin Tarantino, and female boxer Lucia Rijker, and investigated sorority life at Ohio State University. He contributed to articles on Jimi Hendrix’s kidnapping, drawn from his co-authored book "American Desperado." Wright's career also included contributions to Time and Vanity Fair, and an early role at Hustler as a film reviewer. His books include "Hella Nation" (2009) and "How to Get Away With Murder in America" (2012). Recently, he appeared in the HBO docuseries "Teen Torture Inc.," revisiting his time at the Seed juvenile delinquent center, also covered in his memoir "The Seed." |
