| Video Discription | A British couple cycling around the world was killed in a road accident east of Bangkok last Wednesday. Peter Root and Mary Thompson, both 34, died when they were hit by a pickup truck, Thai police said Monday. The two left Britain in July 2011 and had already biked through Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and China. Thai Police Lt. Col. Supachai Luangsukcharoen said that authorities found their bodies, their bicycles and their things scattered along the side of the road, along with a pickup truck that had crashed between some trees. Twenty-five year old driver Worapong Sangkhawat was injured seriously in the crash. He told police that was reaching down to pick up a cap from the floor of the vehicle when he hit and killed the couple. The driver is out on bail and faces charges of causing death by driving recklessly, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. Thai police said the bodies of the couple are being kept in Chachoengsao, 30km east of Bangkok, until they can be repatriated. |
