| Video Discription | The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a cyclone alert for the Saurashtra and Kutch coasts as an extremely severe cyclonic storm named "Biparjoy" (pronounced as "Biporjoy") intensifies over the east-central Arabian Sea. The storm, which has been moving northwards at a speed of 5 kmph, is expected to make landfall between Mandvi in Gujarat and Karachi in Pakistan by noon on June 15th. #Cyclone #CycloneBiparjoy #mausamstation The cyclone is projected to continue moving northward until the morning of June 14th, after which it will veer towards the north-northeast and cross the Saurashtra and Kutch coasts, as well as the adjoining Pakistan coasts. It is expected to hit land as a very severe cyclonic storm, with maximum sustained wind speeds of 125-135 kmph, gusting up to 150 kmph. The intensity of rainfall is expected to increase further on June 15th, with heavy to very heavy rainfall predicted in certain areas. Strong winds are also a significant concern. On June 12th, gale wind speeds of 160-170 kmph, gusting up to 190 kmph, are expected over the northeast and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea. Squally wind speeds of 40-50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph, are likely in the adjoining areas of the west-central Arabian Sea. The wind speeds will gradually decrease over the following days, but still remain strong. The sea conditions will be hazardous, with a phenomenal sea state expected over the northeast and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea, and rough conditions in the northwest Arabian Sea. Along the Saurashtra and Kutch coasts, the sea will be rough to very rough until the evening of June 14th, and then become high to phenomenal until noon on June 15th. Low-lying areas of Kutch, Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagar, and Morbi districts are at risk of storm surge, with water levels predicted to rise 2-3 meters above the astronomical tide during the time of landfall. The cyclone is likely to cause significant damage to infrastructure and crops in the affected regions. Thatched houses are expected to be destroyed completely, while kutcha houses will suffer extensive damage. Power and communication poles may be uprooted, and roads could be severely affected, causing disruption to transportation. Standing crops, plantations, and orchards are also at risk of widespread damage. Fishermen have been advised to suspend all fishing operations in the affected areas until June 15th. Those at sea are urged to return to the coast, and offshore and onshore activities should be regulated carefully. Precautionary measures are being taken at ports and naval bases. Motor boats and small ships should avoid venturing into the sea along these coasts.
