Number 10: The Second Congo War
The second Congo war started in the Congo in 1998, a year after the end of the first Congo war. The war caused 5.4 million deaths. This figure makes it the most deadly war in African history. About 2 million civilians left their homes and sought asylum in other countries. The war ended in July 2003 when the transitional government of Congo came into power. The war was fought between nine African countries and 25 armed groups that were changing sides and constantly killing each other. The Second Congo War is considered the most deadly war in history after World War II. It is also known as the "World War of Africa." Even after the war ended, millions of people died due to starvation and hunger. The second Congo war ended with the Sun City Agreement with no clear victor and with the creation of a unified government in Congo with Joseph Kabila as president and Jean Pierre as prime minister.
Number 9 : The Napoleonic Wars
The Napoleonic Wars refer to a series of wars that started in 1803 and lasted until 1815. A series of wars were fought by different coalitions against Napoleon's French empire. France gained more power as Napoleon's army conquered more areas of Europe, but it collapsed when Russia invaded France in 1812. As a result, Napoleon's army was defeated, resulting in the restoration of the French monarchy and the formation of a concert in Europe. Almost six coalitions were fighting against Napoleon's armies. According to an estimate, more than 4 million civilians and troops were killed in the war. The Napoleonic Wars are considered to be one of the deadliest wars in terms of casualties. The series of wars is divided into categories based on the coalitions that participated in the wars at different times.
Number 8 : The Russian Civil War
The Russian Civil War was a series of wars that arose in different areas of Russia after the collapse of the Russian Empire. The Russian empire collapsed into the Soviet Union and Tsar Nicholas II's power was dissolved. After that, Vladimir Lenin gathered and led the Bolshevik forces to occupy the interior areas of Russia. This war involved most of the civilians. As a result, the war resulted in massive life loss and property destruction. The war started in 1917 and lasted more than six years. Imagine the civilians fighting with each other and the troops killing them. It was hilarious, for sure. Bloody battles erupted across Russia. The total number of deaths from the Russian Civil War is said to be 9 million, but these figures are estimates. Millions of civilians lost their lives in the war, and millions more were wounded or severely injured. After the war ended, many more people died due to pandemics, famines, and starvation. Therefore, the exact number of deaths is uncertain. The Russian Civil War ended when Lenin's army claimed victory and established the government.
Number 7 : The Chinese Civil War
The Chinese Civil War started in 1927 and was fought between the Kuomintang, or the so-called nationalist government of China, and the Communist Party of China. The party of the nationalist government of China was founded by Sun Yat-Sen, and at that time, Chiang Kai-Shek was the leader of the party. Some other major leaders of this party were Bai Chongxi and Chen Cheng.
On the other hand, the Communist Party of China was led by Mao Zedong.
The Qing Dynasty callapsed in 1911, and as a result, the entire country experienced a power vacuum. For some years, both of these parties formed the government and tried to unify China, but after some years, an internal rivalry arose in both parties, which resulted in the Chinese Civil War. In 1927, the Kuomintang decided to totally destroy the power of the Communist Party of China. Many leaders of the Communist Party of China were arrested and killed. This incident is called the Shanghai Massacre.
The war continued until 1950 and resulted in more than 8 million deaths.

The war was the result of a religious conflict and was fought between the Catholic and Protestant states of central Europe. The war started when the King of Bohemia attempted to impose Catholicism throughout his empire and, as a result, turned Protestants into rebels. By the end of 1630, the whole of Europe was at war. Due to this civil war, more than 8 million people lost their lives and millions had to leave their homes. The war ended in 1648 with an agreement known as the Treaty of Westphalia. |
