| Video Discription | August is an important month for the pro-democracy movement in the Philippines. It gives us the time that we Filipinos need, especially in these very difficult times, to reflect on the importance of cherishing our democracy, and remember those who fought for its very survival. We remember President Benigno Aquino III forty days since his passing, President Corazon C. Aquino, on the twelfth anniversary of her passing, and Senator Benigno S. Jr. on the 38th anniversary of his assassination. This video shows what TV cameras and journalists captured of the tragic assassination of Ninoy Aquino, with the tape recording made by the late famed TIME Magazine journalist Sandra Burton. The audio tape has been synced with the video (aside from the later part of the video which shows Senator Aquino being carried into the AVSECOM van) and begins at 2:11. In the recording, you can clearly hear the command to shoot ("Pusila, pusila!"), the gunshot that killed Senator Aquino, and the volley of gunshots directed by members of the Aviation Security Command (AVSECOM) and Aquino's military escorts at Rolando Galman, the alleged fall guy. This stunning recording was used during the second Sandiganbayan trial which subsequently convicted Ninoy's military escorts for his assassination in 1991. Sandra Burton herself testified and her dispatches were also crucial evidence during the trial. Benigno S.
