| Video Discription | [UPDATE: It's actually not at all remarkable that this collision was captured on film, as it is in fact footage of a crash that occurred at an air show in Spokane, Washington. It's pretty outrageous that Jack Lieb included someone else's footage of a an air show crash in Washington as part of a personally-narrated film about his own experience covering the invasion of France! Lieb wasn't even back in the United States yet when the crash occurred.] It's pretty remarkable that this collision was captured on film. The narrated footage is a selection from the film _D-Day to Germany_, a 1944 documentary shot, edited, and narrated by Jack Lieb, who was a “News of the Day” correspondent assigned to cover the invasion of France. Lieb shot the film as a personal project while working for the Hearst Corporation. Postwar, he created a traveling film and lecture program (hence the narration). The US National Archives and Records Administration restored the complete film in 2014. |
