Have you ever done a detox or cleansing program?? As a naturopath who is always curious and loves to try anything natural, I have always loved doing various cleansing regimes over the years. And usually I rope some poor unsuspecting friend or family member (usually my son) into the process too…you know it’s much more fun doing something like this with someone else! Anyway, I do get many people asking me about cleansing and detox regimes for their dogs. So do I recommend these sorts of programs for dogs?? Well, yes I do but like any particular natural treatment plan I do recommend doing this under supervision so you can get advice if needed. So why would we even consider this for our pets?? Isn’t the body meant to be self cleansing?? Well yes absolutely. But you know the problem is that our dogs were NEVER meant to cope with the high levels of toxins that they are coming into contact with every day. This includes toxins from the foods that they eat, medications, vaccinations, pesticidal flea, tick and worming products, medicated shampoos, household cleaning products, garden and lawn chemicals, exhaust fumes….wow, the list just goes on and on. And remember too that our dogs are much lower to the ground than we are and have very porous paw pads and noses that want to smell EVERYTHING. SO it makes sense that they will be more exposed to chemicals and more quickly affected due to their smaller size and metabolism |
