Bhartahari, also known as Jogi Sant" Bharthari, in many parts of India. Stories of Bharthari and his nephew King Gopi Chand of Bengal, who are considered Nath panth yogis, are abound in the Indian folklore. Bharthari was a mahayogi and a supreme devotee. He is also known for his famous - Śatakatraya - three poems of 100 verses each - known as the Nītiśataka, Śṛṅgāraśataka, and Vairāgyaśataka.
These stories are missing from historical records but brought in light by swami shivomtirth as a reminiscences of his guru Swami Vishnu Tirth who was gifted with a divine vision and an uncanny ability to peep into past. He roamed subtle extra-terrestrial planes and was in contact of invisible masters. He could focus his mind on any past event and could perceive visions of them – how and where the events occurred – just like a motion picture.
This series – ‘Sadhan Shikhar Stories’ covers detailed account of stories of the Hill of Devi in dewas Madhya Pradesh and recount of some mahapurushas who lived here and did their tapasyas; as discovered by swami Vishnu Tirth by his spiritual gift of unravelling events of the past. This is based on book – Sadhan shikhar or Pinnacle of Sadhan by swami shivom tirth.
These stories of majestically divine Hill of Devi / Dewas tekri of Madhya Pradesh, India.
The hilltop has a mythological legend associated with it –
When sati ended her life in yogagni, enraged lord shive took her body in arms and moved aimlessly. In order to release shiva from this state, lord Vishnu severed sati’s body by his Sudarshan chakra. The parts of body fell down and the places it fell became shakti peeths. Harsiddhi mandir of Ujjain is one of the places where one of her body part had fallen and from there a drop of blood flew to the hillock and a near siddha peeth of ma chamunda emerged here by itself. It is not counted as one of the shakti peeth but in no way is less significant than a shakti peeth. It is well known siddha peeth residing in dewas city.
This story shows that spiritual progress is not that easy and a long journey. Bhartahari had this traumatic experiences of wife’s infidelity in many lives and he had to assume another body to fulfil his karma and samskaras though he has highly evolved and no other samskaras were left. What to say about ordinary person with innumerable samskaras.
I hope you liked the story. It is really interesting to see how yogis can unravel past and peep into events taken place already. In any case, story of raja bhartruhari inspires us immensely towards our long spiritual journey and provides insight of the struggle that lies within it.
The hillock of Devi is still here as in old days except the modernization around her. Blessed is the dewas Tekri – the hill of Devi and the yogis who have done their Sadhan there amidst visible and invisible yogis and ray of blessings.
There are many other stories that we are going to cover in subsequent videos in this series.
