Her forthcoming film, Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine as Light, had been selected in competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The film has won Grand Prix prize in the Cannes Film festival this year.Directed by Payal Kapadia, the film starts two Malayali actors Divya Prabha and Kani Kusruti.The film was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 77th Cannes Film Festival . She first gained recognition in 2009 with the film Kerala Cafe, where her performance was critically acclaimed. Kani won the Best Actress at Kerala State Film Awards in 2020 and the Best Actress Award at the Moscow International Film Festival for her performance as Khadeeja in the film Biriyaani. Kani was born to social activist and rationalist parents Jayasree A. K. and Maitreya Maitreyan. They had decided that they wouldn`t get married and raised Kani in an unconventional environment.
