In fact, these galaxies are so large that they might just shatter our scientific understanding of the universe as we know it. It takes billions of years for a galaxy as big as the Milky Way, with at least 100 billion stars, to form. However, the JWST has identified six galaxies that exist just half a billion years after the big bang, and they're up to ten times bigger than our own Milky Way! Scientists previously thought that galaxies this big couldn't exist in the early universe, but the evidence from the JWST is clear.
