Lately I've had several people reach out to me and ask why I choose doTERRA essential oils over other companies. This is a great question!
Two big factors come into play regarding the effectiveness and quality of essential oils: Plant Potency & Oil Purity. I feel like Keeli Martinez, a fellow leader with doTERRA, explained this well and I adapted and added to her explanation below.
1. Plant Potency: When selecting which plants are to be used for essential oil production, it is essential that the plant is grown in the correct soil, temperature, and climate, as all of this can effect the therapeutic benefit of the oil. When these factors are optimal, the plant will be able to reach its highest potency. For example, many essential oil companies grow their plants in the United States, while doTERRA’s Frankincense is sourced from Somalia. This really makes a difference in the therapeutic value and efficacy of the oil, as you cannot trick mother nature, and plants thrive in their optimal environment. That is why I love doTERRA's co-impact sourcing, as the oils come from their indigenous regions. A Frankincense tree grown here in the US may survive, but it probably wouldn't thrive, and that is reflected in the chemical compound and therapeutic value of the oil.
2. Oil Purity: When oils contain fillers or other elements that dilute and alter their purity, their ability to function at their highest capacity is now compromised. In order to enjoy all the benefits of essential oils, they must be used in their purest form.
Unfortunately, there is no regulating agency over essential oils. Many of these bottles that claim to be "100% pure oil" are a very poor quality and/or highly diluted/adulterated. I read somewhere a bottle just has to be 10% oil to claim to be 100% pure on a label. Yikes! To me, it is very similar to reading one thing on the front of a food package, and then turning it over to read the ingredients and seeing something completely different.
That is where dōTERRA’s Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade came from, because they perform over seven quality tests throughout the processing of each batch of oil to ensure that it meets their own rigorous standards for quality, a process that includes paying for third-party testing. Other companies have their own standards, but may not pay for third-party testing. There are also other companies that just plain don’t do the testing. This is where it is left up to us to be informed consumers and do our own research.
This is why, after much research, I use and trust dōTERRA essential oils. After using the oils in my life for over a year and a half, I decided to become an essential oil educator, and I'm now a leader with doTERRA International. I feel like doTERRA has set the bar for essential oil purity and potency. We like to think of doTERRA's oils as beyond organic. I was impressed with their rigorous scientific research and advanced testing of each oil that is put into production.
While the purity and potency is vital when choosing an essential oil, I also think it is important to go with a company that you trust and find someone who is going to support and educate you along your essential oil journey. I schedule Zoom calls with my new oilers to go over the basics with them, so they feel very comfortable and empowered implementing essential oils into their daily routine to support their health and wellness. We talk about dilution, how to make roller bottle blends, how to use their diffuser, how to clean their diffuser, how to take the oils internally, which oils need to be diluted, and more. I also have a private FB group for my oilers for continued education and support, where I teach classes and jump on FB live videos to answer questions.
I feel like that education and support makes a HUGE difference. You don't get that when buying essential oils from other places. My oilers are part of my family and we support one another.
