In this Video, I react to the Movie ‘Downfall (2004)’. Downfall is considered one of the greatest war movies ever made and Charts the last 10 days of Hitler's life, from his 56th birthday on April 20th, 1945 to his suicide on April 30th. The movie is viewed primarily from the viewpoint of Traudl Junge, Hitlers Personal Secretary who is interviewed at both the start and end of the movie and is therefore a direct personal account of those final days of the war in Europe. Downfall uses multiple characters to show the chaos of a country coming apart at the seams, from Hitler's henchman under the streets of Berlin, to the soldiers and civilians fighting and dying as the Soviet Army ravaged the city above. Downfall was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 2005. Downfall was written by Bernd Eichinger, Joachim Fest and Traudl Junge. Downfall was directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel. Downfall stars, amongst others, the late great Bruno Ganz, may God rest his soul, as Adolf Hitler and who gives a masterful performance which in my opinion is Oscar worthy. It also stars as well as Alexandra Maria Lara who is also magnificent as the young Traul Junge andd Ulrich Mathes who gives a chilling performance as Josef Gobbels.
