He dedicated himself to his work, faithfully fulfilling his duties regardless of the risk. That all culminated in a 7-month assignment at Ground Zero following the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center, and during the search and rescue efforts, Ron was exposed to harmful dust and debris. The resulting severe lung disease would effectively end his career and change the course of his life.
