| Video Discription | The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) amended its emergency use authorization for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to expand the use of a single booster dose to 12- to 15-year-olds. The FDA also shortened the time needed before receiving a booster from at least six months after completion of the initial series to at least five months for everyone 12 and older. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention will review this recommendation. The CDC is expected to approve it. The Mayo Clinic News Network team asked Dr. Gregory Poland, head of Mayo Clinic's Vaccine Research Group, about what this means, especially with kids heading back to school after winter break. For the safety of its patients, staff and visitors, Mayo Clinic has strict masking policies in place. Anyone shown without a mask was either recorded prior to COVID-19 or recorded in a nonpatient-care area where social distancing and other safety protocols were followed.
