| Video Discription | Dr. Shahabuddin Yaqoob Quraishi, the 17th Chief Election Commissioner of India, delivered an illuminating session on some of the innovations that changed India’s elections forever. He started off with a few numbers that served to illustrate the sheer size and grandeur of the Indian election spectacle and then moved on to pinpoint the necessity of having multiple backup plans to conduct a successful election. He concluded with a vital reminder of the importance of even a single vote, citing the examples of a polling station in Gujarat for a single voter and an instance in Rajasthan in 2008-09 when a contest was settled by a single vote. Dr. S.Y. Quraishi is a distinguished Indian Civil Servant, who has done his Ph.D. in Communications & Social Marketing & is an IAS Officer of the 1971 batch. Through sheer talent, determination and an inclusive leadership style , he rose the ranks to become the 17th Chief Election Commissioner of India during the period of 2010 - 2012. However, his passion for fortifying the democratic ideal and his talent in making it work in practice has fuelled his continued work, and is now the Ambassador of Democracy at International IDEA present in Stockholm, Sweden.
