In 1945, the Soviet Union occupied East Germany and divided Berlin into four sectors. Thousands of Berliners ventured into the countryside to find food, but a serial killer in the surrounding forests threatened their safety. In the city, the Gladow gang played a dangerous game of cat and mouse with the police. But the peak of the crime occurred in Dresden, where one of the most brutal criminal cases of the post-war period caused horror and raised the question of a cannibal. The documentary sheds light on how people act in extreme situations and how the war influenced attitudes towards law and morality. Overall, it shows how dangerous everyday life was in the Soviet occupation zone and in Berlin after 1945, and explains why survivors of the war resorted to extreme measures.
