Dyslexia and the Gift of Material Reasoning: When “Thinking Outside the Box” is Not Enough!
Recent studies have shown that over 70% of parents complained that school didn't nurture or support their dyslexic child, while half of the dyslexic children surveyed had tried to avoid school, and eventually dropped out, because of their dyslexia. Meanwhile, 84% of teachers found identifying dyslexia "hard to impossible", with a staggering 61% of school exclusions involving neurodiversities such as dyslexia. Yet with a simple scientific understanding of the cognitive needs and skills of the dyslexic learner, educators can turn possible difficulties into probably success stories. This session will show what those cognitive needs and skills are, why they demand new creative approaches to teaching, what these approaches might be, and how to reach learners by accessing the material reasoning skills involved in dyslexic creativity.
Event sponsored by Felser Limited, Education Management and Software company, based in the UK, founder of PAGS® (Profile Assessment and Goal Setting). One in five of all children have a special education need (SEN). But schools are often not equipped to support those needs. As a result, every year millions of children fall behind in school. PAGS is an online platform for parents who want a more adapted education for their child, or better support. Built and supported by international SEN experts, PAGS uses targeted questions to provide tailor-made recommendations on the areas and the exercises to help your child achieve success. Our tool can generate measurable improvements within weeks and stay with your child for as long as you need it. For learners aged 5-25 with social communication difficulties, related to social, emotional behavioural and cognitive functioning, ASD, ADHD, Dyslexia, Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD), ADHD, attachment disorder and conduct disorder, moderate and mild learning difficulties.
