Sekrenyi is said to be the biggest and most important festival of the Angami Naga tribe of Nagaland which holds deep cultural significance. It serves as a "festival of purification," urging individuals to forgive one another and purify themselves. The chief guest of the occasion Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio was accompanied by Deputy Chief Ministers T.R. Zeliang and Y. Patton as Guests of Honour. Sekrenyi is celebrated by the Angami Nagas in the month of February. And, it normally falls on the 25th day of the Angami calendar month - "Kezei". The word Sekrenyi is an amalgamation of two words - 'Sekre' meaning sanctification or purification and "nyi' meaning festival.
