Join us: https://bit.ly/3Rz1uCH The indefinite hunger strike by Ri Bhoi resident Bindas Syiem paid off on the sixth day after Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong assured her of fulfilling her demands following a meeting on June 11. Bindas began her indefinite hunger strike with a placard on June 6 demanding the construction of the Nongpoh-Umden-Sonapur road which has been in a dilapidated state for years. Over the days, her protest gained momentum as more people joined her to express solidarity. Taking note of the protest, Tynsong who is also in charge of PWD Roads, on Monday invited her to discuss the issue. Following the meeting, the government gave her a written assurance of beginning the construction of the road by 2024. Earlier, providing details of the project, Tynsong had said that the project was conceptualised during the previous term of the MDA government but could not be completed due to the amount earmarked by the World Bank.
