Lights, Camera, Learn is starting a revolution to individualizing education, and the solution is Edutainment.
Problem?
There are many problems with the current education system, and it has led to a war between lecturer and listener: long boring hours of expensive lecturing for listeners memorize, do homework and regurgitate information on tests.
Solution!
A revolution that aims to individualize education so that everyone can learn.
There are so many ways to learn, and memorization is only one of them. We can learn by teaching, traveling, debating, doing, and even playing. After a lot of research we found a solution for the 21st century learner: edutainment.
Emotion + Information = long term memory
If you feel an emotion, like happiness or confusion, while processing information, then it is more likely to be stored in your long term memory, and you will remember even after a test. So edutainment, relies on the core principle that if you’re learning while having fun, then you will remember what you’ve learned for a long time.
Definitions
Edutainment: merging Entertainment + education
Screens: Tool for listening.
Cameras: tool for communicating.
Filmmaking: The process of making a movie aka: learning while having fun
Film: a movie that you watch that is educational.
Stars: empowered students that are the stars of their own education
Directors: leaders that empower, educate, and instill passion in the stars
Edutainment is a very new industry, and it is broad, it can refer to learning through video games, songs, and film. It originated when educators realized that children (ages 8-18) are spending an average of 8-9 hours a day on phone, computer, or TV screens, being entertained, while spending the rest of their time in school, bored.
This is where Lights, Camera, Learn steps in. When we speak about edutainment we refer to it in two parts.
Filmmaking - the process of making a movie:
Before making any movie, two decisions need to be made.
1) What are you trying to learn? a language (english/arabic/french) / or a subject (history/ science/ geography)
2) what are you trying to teach? if other people saw this film, what would you want them to know about you, your stories, and your thoughts?
There are three stages to making a movie, and many skills are acquired while completing them.
Pre-production: Research, Project management, Writing, Planning, Brainstorming, Empowerment, storytelling.
Production: Collaboration, Communication, Acting, Confidence-building, Reading, Leadership, Artistic direction
Post-production: Technical skills, Editing, Red Carpet Event, Advertising
The Film - the result, a movie to be seen.
There are so many people making great edutainment content (Ted-ed,Crashcourse,Brainchild)
However, LCL is a niche, because we create: Localized content
By kids, for kids
In sum, whether you’re a learner that needs to be active: creating, collaborating and just MOVING to intake information. Or, you’re a learner that needs to pause that video and watch that scene one more time to understand that idea.To fully master a concept, you’re probably a learner that needs both.
With Lights camera learn, technology becomes a tool, not a distraction. Lecturer becomes leader, and listener becomes the star of their education & life.
So, join us in starting the Edutainment Revolution and help us bring Lights, Camera, Learn to your community. |
