| Video Discription | We live in an era of loss and damage – one in which the impacts of climate change are increasingly, unrelentingly and irreversibly rupturing environmental, social, economic and cultural fabrics as millions are forced to move to cope with intensifying climatic stressors. It’s easy to think about climate-related migration as some ‘far away’ problem, affecting communities other than our own, but this false sense of security must be debunked, and a shift in collective consciousness, resilience and preparedness, towards a framework of protection for those on the move must begin now, urges climate mobility researcher and advocate, Lauren Grant. Lauren Grant is a mover and a shaker, who researches and advocates at the intersections of climate-induced displacement, differential vulnerability, violence, conflict and genocide, environmental and social justice, human rights and development. She is the Director of Field Research at Earth Refuge, the planet’s first legal think tank dedicated to climate migrants, and is the founder of the first-of-its-kind International School on Climate Migration. She holds an MSc in Violence, Conflict and Development (SOAS University of London) and an MA in Human Rights (Central European University). Lauren is committed to making the world a safe, just and sustainable place for all.
