| Video Discription | Article 3 asserts that all people have equal rights. Nobody should be discriminated against because of their gender, origin, language, belief, skin colour, sexual orientation or disability. The state must ensure that no one is deprived of opportunities due to such matters, e.g. in the job market or when looking for a flat. A landlord, for instance, may not reject a gay couple as a tenant because of their sexual identity. What could life in Germany look like without Article 3? Watch and check both endings! Then the Basic Law, i.e. the German constitution, would be exactly the right book for you. However, legal documents are often quite abstract and hard to read. That is why we set out to make these rules/rights more tangible through everyday stories about the most important articles of the Basic Law. Our videos have a double ending: They each show how life could look like if Germany did not have this constitution-and an ideal situation, where the basic rights are respected/protected according to the German Basic Law. Even in a democracy, of course, not everything works perfectly in reality. There are always situations in which human rights are threatened and the Basic Law is not observed. We hope the series "What if...?" would help us all reflect on the fragility of our democracy.- and ask ourselves: What has to change in our society so that the "ideal" becomes an everyday reality all over Germany?
