Do you want the one with the shower? Do you want the one with the cocktail bar? Do you want the one with 40 square feet of space and complete privacy with floor-to-ceiling walls? In this video, I’ll show you the differences and explain how you can book the one that’s right for you. Emirates Aviation is one of the two flag carriers of the United Arab Emirates (the other being Etihad Airways). And, their first class product is one of the best in the air. But, travelers need to know the difference between the first class experience on an Emirates A380 and first class on an Emirates Boeing triple-seven. The A380s have two showers and a cocktail bar. First class on the triple-sevens does NOT have a bar nor showers, but it does have Fully-enclosed private suites. In fact, these exclusive spaces are the world’s first private inflight suites. They measure 40-square-feet in size! That’s pretty big, but not as spacious as Singapore First Class at fifty square feet! See that experience at the link above or below. The Emirates suites on the triple-sevens have floor to ceiling doors, binoculars for window seats and—-if you don’t have an actual window—- “Virtual Windows” with HD projections of the view from outside. The food and wine in first class is the same on both aircraft and the wine list is incredible. So, how can you experience Emirates first class? Well, if you’re in the United States and flying to Europe, not the Middle East, two good options are Newark to Athens or JFK to Milan. The Newark to Athens flight generally utilizes the triple-seven and the New York to Milan flight typically uses the A380. Round trip airfares for both flights are astronomical: more than Seventeen grand each! But, if you’re looking to experience Emirates first class at far less than that, you could book a one-way from Europe to the U.S. That will set you back a little more than Five grand. When we booked our most recent Emirates flights, I had an option to use some miles and points to get us business class seats—- hoping to upgrade to first from business. But, I wasn’t sure if it was smarter to buy a ticket using cash, so I went to my favorite online calculator to help me do the math, and that’s milesvscash.com. I plugged in the numbers and—-yes— using miles was the right choice. So, I transferred some points from my Citibank account and finalized the seats. Soon afterward, I received an email from Emirates asking if I would like to sign-up for automatic upgrades to FIRST class (if available). Yes, please! But, by the time we were checking in on the day of departure, I had not heard anything regarding the automatic upgrades. I knew there were some empty seats in first class, so I asked the very nice agent at check-in if it were possible to upgrade our award tickets. She made one phone call and viola! Yes! First class! Moments later I received an email confirming the 39-thousand miles deducted for each seat. So, we paid a total of 126-thousand miles each for seats that will—- at best—- set you back more than five thousand dollars. That’s a redemption of nearly four cents per mile!
